Let’s be honest – sometimes the world feels overwhelmingly broken. War rages in places we’ve never been, children go to bed hungry, families are displaced, creation groans. The news cycle moves fast, but the pain lingers. It’s easy to feel small. Helpless. Tired. Cynical.

But this is not who we are.

As Catholic educators, students, leaders – we are not called to despair. We are Pilgrims of Hope. And hope isn’t just some vague feeling or naïve optimism. It’s not sitting back and wishing things were better. Hope is choice. Hope is a disciple. Hope is action.

In a world crying out for healing, we walk forward – not with empty hands, bit with hearts full of Gospel joy. We carry the stories of Jesus: the man who sat with the broken, who touched the untouchable, who forgave the unforgivable, who refused to be silenced by violence or fear. His resurrection wasn’t the end of the story – it was the beginning of a new one. And we are still writing it.

In this Jubilee Year, we’re not just commemorating something ancient – we’re stepping into something urgent. Pilgrims move. We don’t stand still. So how do we live as hope-bearers in a world like this?

We teach with purpose. We lead with compassion. We listen deeply. We pray boldly. We form young people who don’t just chase success, but justice. We see beyond their screens and care about strangers. Who dream of a better world and believe they can help build it.

Hope isn’t soft. It’s strong. It keeps showing up when it’s easier to look away. It’s packing food parcels when the headlines are bleak. It’s creating inclusive classrooms where every student knows they matter. It’s writing letters to Parliament, planting trees, telling stories of peace. It’s acting as if change is possible – because it is.

As Pilgrims of Hope, we walk in solidarity with the suffering – but we also refuse to be paralysed by the pain. We move forward together, eyes fixed on Christ, hearts open to others, hands ready to work.

So here’s the call: Be stubborn in your hope. Teach it. Live it. Multiply it.

Let your school be a beacon. Let your students become the kind of leaders our world desperately needs – compassionate, brave, joyful, just. Let your community echo the words of Pope Francis: “Do not let yourselves be robbed of hope.”

The world needs people who refuse to give up.

And that’s exactly who we are.
